Surviving Japan: Before the Trip

Image
I've been to Japan for quite a number of times and every time I've been there, I've always experienced some fun and new things to do. This year (2017),  my trip covered a couple of prefectures near Tokyo. Toyama (Tateyama Alpine Route), Ibaraki ( Hitachi Seaside Park), Chiba (Tokyo Disneyland), Gifu (Shirakawago), Yamanashi (Kawaguchiko), and Tochigi ( Ashikaga Flower Park). It wasn't rocket science when I decided to go to these places. I had to scratch head and pulled out a few hairs before settling on this itinerary.  I decided to list down a few tips to help you guys plan your next travel to Japan: 1. Do your research  In the beginning, when there were no Facebook pages to like, we would heard about the wonderful places of Japan by word of mouth or the travel programs that we see on TV or during the travel fair. Times have changed. We have various tourism board pages from which you can subscribe to with a click of a button. List down the places you want...

How To Apply Canadian Tourist Visa in Singapore

Image
As I was rummaging through my files, I've noticed that I've forgotten to write about visa application to Canada as a tourist. Being a passport holder from a third-world country, I have to present documents to show that I am indeed going to go to that country just for the holidays. I also need to show them that I have the intention of going back to our home country after the holidays. People can thank their lucky stars for being born in a first world country. The number of countries to travel are infinite, provided that you have the financial means to do so.                             So, what are the requirements to apply for a tourist visa in Canada ( for people living in Singapore): 1. Accomplished form Details relating to your family as well as start of employment, salary, are asked. This is a very detailed form. 2. Supporting document ( Family information ) 3. Documents to upload/print: ...

[RACE/CONCERT] Survival Guide to Singapore Grand Prix 2015 : Running around the Grid

Image
Very much late post to the 2015 SG Grand Prix Night Race. The year 2015 had Pharell Williams (Fri), Maroon 5 (Sat) and Bon Jovi (Sun) as the headliners of the concert. More than 7 months of waiting, it's finally the Grand Prix. Though the motivating power to go it is the concert rather than the race, but since we were there might as well watch the race. Going around the area  Since we got the bay grandstand ticket, this post will be around the said ticket. Padang area (Zone 4) The coyote stage is just across, so if there are acts prior to the concert, you can probably hear it. What privilege does the ticket get?  Entrance only to zone 3,4 and 8 ( so there'll be no access in other gates ) Get to sit at the seating gallery at the marina bay floating platform ( just across Makansutra, since they sealed off some of the passage, you can only go as much) Getting Food before entering the Grand Prix grounds We tend to just eat anything new, thus we just headed...

Free! Anime Real-life Location : Taijiri Jinja & Taijiri Park Observatory

Image
Getting There: Taijiri Jinja   We did not wait for the next bus to arrive as the interval for the next bus is quite long ( You have to wait for at least 1 hour before the next bus to arrive).  From google map ( having done previous research), it did say it was just a 2km walk ( but of course it did not mention that there will be an uphill climb)  So we walked along the road and saw some Free! posters along the way. They were Free! images so we thought that it was the correct way to reach the place.. I guess, it wasn't . ..In any case do not attempt to take that road/shortcut as it's a bit dangerous. There was even sign that says do not cross when it's raining .. haha..  ) So the best way, i think, is to follow the road ahead ( and if you reach a dead end just go where the observatory park is visible. ) At this part of the terrain , Taijiri Observatory Park is quite visible.   We finally reached the point of  Taijiri bus stop. We were still puzzled as...

Free! Anime Real-life Location : Arasuna Shrine

During my recent trip to Japan, I had the privilege to visit Iwami, a quaint town in Tottori Prefecture and the setting of the equally famous Kyoto Animation's series, Free! We decided to head down to the town of Iwami ( 岩美) . The journey to Iwami Station didn't take that long. As a bonus, we  were treated to a view of an array of sakura trees which were along the railway track ( Watch out for an array of sakura trees between Oiwa station and Iwami station during sakura season -- around first week of April. It was breathtaking indeed! )   Iwami is really a small town, and you certainly cannot find convenience store near the station. That Lawson convenience store is still miles away from the station. We had no choice but to hold off our hunger. ( Better stuff yourself with food before you come here unless you plan on staying on the inn here )  Iwami Station We arrived shortly at past 12, just in time for the first bus out of Iwami station to the town pr...
