Myanmar 2019: Day 1 of 5 : Reaching Yangon

Woke up early morning to go to the airport. It was a Sunday and the airport was still busy.

After 2h 55 minutes flight aboard Singapore Airlines, A330, Yangon was in sight.

I met the tour guide at the arrival area settled with the tour fees with the guide. (Remember: Always get the official receipt. The tour guide, in turn will give you the voucher for hotel and the flights). I also changed money at the airport and bought a sim card (4GB for 1 week, MYTEL, 4,500 kyat).

After settling the bills, it was time to go..

The first stop was a few landmarks near the city area, in particular the city hall.

We took an hour around the area, and it was time for lunch. Lunch was at this eatery ..
Ordered the food that was recommended by the guide:
An order of dry Kyay-Oh (No need for rice as the noodles were already filling ) and an order of a thar sone pauk se  (This dish was full of eggs)
Also not to be missed are their fruit juices. Freshly made fruit juice. I ordered an avocado fruit juice (1,500 kyat) and it's worth every penny.
After lunch, it was time to continue with the tour. Visited the Aung San Museum (the former residence of  Gen Aung San and family for 2 years during World War 2 )
To enter the grounds, one must remove footwear...
Welcoming you to the venue is a statue of Gen. Aung San (the Father of the Lady).

The living area where guests were received..

After the tour of the house, the next stop was a drive to the Royal Lake (for a photo-stop)

and a view of the Shwedagon Pagoda from afar..

Myanmar is a country full of temple and pagoda, and Yangon is not an exception. Before entering any pagoda or temple, there's a notice posted that says footwear should be left outside before entering the compound.

The next place in the itinerary is the Nga Htat Gyi, where there's a sitting Buddha.

The outer area of the temple where you'll leave the footwear..

Then it was off to visit, chauk hatgyi , or The Reclining Buddha

People asking for blessings while they "shower" their Birth day Buddha. Most people know what day of the month they were born.

Shwedagon Pagoda (almost sunset)

We had to check-in after wards and grab our dinner. Restaurant closes at around 8PM and we had 1 hr to decide and eat. We scouted the area and noticed most were street food ( where you would question hygiene, since this was the first day, we didn't want to risk it) . We chose to eat at their local pizza joint, The Pizza Company.

And then we called it a day, on this day we stayed at the Panorama Hotel.
Hotel: Panorama Hotel
