Singapore 2018: Surviving Halloween Horror Nights 8

This was my first time going to Halloween Horror Nights. I've seen feeds from friends about Halloween Horror Nights, yet I wasn't enticed, until this year, when Universal Studios brought  in Stranger Things.

I can say that my tolerance for scary things is quite high. It'll take a lot of effort for me to scream my lungs out. (Not having the money to pay the bills is )

Now, I will not spoil the part where they will scare you as it will defeat the purpose of going to a haunted house. It's for you to be scared. I'll just be laying out to some of the guidelines for you to fully enjoy Halloween Horror Nights (next year).  Halloween Horror Nights is a month long venture of Universal Studios, where they'll be opened for the night till late.

Getting There

To go Universal Studios, you can go by a few ways:
1. By walking - if you want to burn that excess fat, you can walk  the walkalator from Vivo City Level 1 (Follow the signs to Sentosa Boardwalk).
2. By  Bus  (near the bus stop outside Vivo City is a stop for RWS8 bus that goes to Resorts World Sentosa. You tap your EZLink card and S$1 fare will be deducted).
3 By monorail - Take monorail from Vivo City and alight at Waterfront Station (the first stop).

The park opens at 7.30 till 01.30AM the following day.

Entry

I brought the tickets online as they were having some early bird promotion. The promotion also came with a free merchandise, a cap, which you can redeem at Universal Studio Store. (Ed. This is the store closets to the entrance).

There are bag checks prior to entry of the theme park.
Outside food are not allowed in the park. Bringing in empty water bottle is permissible. There are a few water station inside the park. Fret not.

Queue for the merchandise.

Do not queue immediately for the redemption of the merchandise. Wait a few hours and wait for the crowd to dissipate before going in to redeem the merchandise.

There's Starbucks near the entrance of the park. It charges (.60 - S$1 more than the usual Starbucks outside of USS).

What to expect

Scare zones - They will try to scare you while you least expected. I had to go forth Battlefield Earth Scare Zone around 4x that day.  I was immune at the end of the day.

Haunted houses

Typically your haunted house will have a drag curtain, dark zones, flashing lights, ominous music, stage actors to scare you away. I've been watching a skit in Ellen where she asks her producer Andy to go in the haunted houses. The Haunted Houses here pales in comparison to what they have in the US. I wasn't scared but more of dead tired.
Queuing popular haunted houses where you'll just spend 10 mins inside the house will typically range from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Make sure you stuffed yourself with food. Be equally hydrated. Gone to bathroom breaks, before going to the haunted houses.

Rides

There were but only a few rides that were open for the night. You still have the indoor rides, Transformers and The Mummy. Battlestar Galactica was still in operational, and a few rides in Far Far Away - Shrek 4D (with a twist),  Puss in Boots (this was a bit of a thrill ride) and the mini roller coaster.

Tips:

1. Bring fan (USB charged portable fan will be the best).
Queue time are usually
2. Bring water bottle
Fear not. Even if you can't bring in bottled water from outside. Inside USS, there are water fountains. Water fountain areas I've seen were:
  • Near toilet at Jurassic Park World
  • Near the entrance of Far Far Away, Shrek 4D
  • Inside Puss in Boots queue.

Transportation Back to the City

The last bus I can ride back home is at 0024 (bus 166). Typically last bus timings only stretches until 0030 (for some of the bus). Be sure to check your local listing on which bus to take (and it's last bus timing).  Train to elsewhere ends around 1130ish - midnight. Knowing this, I would definitely prepare to leave the park by 11.45pm, and I would work my way to go to RWS Sentosa and take a bus back to Vivo, monorail at this timing is not operational. Follow the throng of people  to the carpark and work your way to the bus stations in the vicinity.

Happy Haunting!
