Myanmar 2019: Day 3 out of 5 : More temple-running

Day 3

Started the day with a hearty breakfast by the pool

Left the hotel at 9am, and just after a few minutes car ride, the first stop of the day was at ah-shay phwarsaw village. This was just to have a glimpse of the simple life.

Making peanut oil

No peanuts lay waste ..

Feeds to the animal (nothing goes to waste!)

The lone tractor in the village ( the rest are drawn by buffalo)

Weaving cotton into something wonderful by this lady...

and using these fine trades (threads and the loom) to make blanket, towels and scarves...

The guide took to the cotton field to bring some freshly picked cotton..

The next part of the tour was a  horse cart sight-see around old Bagan (originally I wanted to have this taken out of the itinerary, but they decided to put it in so.. )

Trying to get a picture while riding the dusty path ...

Some of the stupas ...

and pagodas .. (According to Mr Hwin, everyone in the kingdom was expected to build a pagoda per family) . The grander it is the more money was spent on.

A photo-stop culminating the short city tour of Old Bagan.

gubyaukgyi temple
Next stop for the day was at the Gubyaukyi Temple.

Nearby is the Nanphayar Temple

and the Manuhar Temple

which also had a Nat Shrine inside ..

and of course a temple is not complete without it's fair share of Buddha statues..

After the temple visits, lunch was served at The King SI Thu restaurant overlooking Irawaddy River.

The view at the restaurant ( There's no service charge, I just left 10% tip)

The meal :
Start off with their selection of fruit juices: pineapple

and their main meal of fried rice with pork, si thu special fried rice, fish with cashew nut:

After the meal, there was a break of 1hr at the hotel before starting the Afternoon Tour.

The afternoon started at the Lawkanandar pagoda

Before heading out to a sunset scenic boat road along irwaddy river (must bring along sandals because you just don't want sands in your shoes), which I think is the highlight of the day!

The boat that the tour guide had chartered ...

Inside the boat ..

The guide offered refreshments consisting of the tea leaves salad and the tamarind candy (it tasted like Haw flakes and this candy is only offered in Bagan, 1000 kyat for a pack of 10s)

More views from the cruise ..

To cap the night, dinner was at Mimosa Restaurant.

The place was quaint and tourists do come in to eat. They have english menu and wifi.

Ordered some fresh juices ..

lime juice

banana juice

and the main dishes:

pork with pumpkin curry

fish curry

 fried vermicelli (chicken)

steamed banana with coconut milk
and it was back to the hotel and the end of Day 3 ...
