Restaurant Review: Don Dae Bak Singapore

Don Dae Bak

Singapore never ceases to amaze me as this city is home to quite a few number of restaurants. It has some eclectic collection of dishes from countries like Korea, China, Japan, Spain, Mexican, and others.

We decided to try Don Dae Bak, a Korean bbq joint that offers bbq buffet at an affordable price.

The dish
Side dishes : Free Flow Side dish ( Most korean side dishes are quite sumptuous that I consider them meals on their own accord. haha! Noteworthy side dish was their potato salad, kimchi, and soybean skin)

As we've reserved their lunch bbq buffet, we ordered from their ala carte bbq buffet selection menu. For the other dishes outside of the bbq buffet , you have to top up accordingly (but you'd not want to eat anything else other than their bbq buffet!).
We opted to order 3 dishes in a row and just space the other orders in between. You are given a time allotment of 90 minutes.

Ala carte bbq selection includes:
Chicken: Marinated chicken, Spicy chicken
Pork: Pork belly, Spicy pork belly, Shoulder pork loin, Spicy shoulder pork loin
Beef: Marinated beef, Beef brisket

Recommended dishes:
The spicy pork belly, marinated beef, marinated chicken, spicy shoulder pork loin

Pork Belly

Charcoal BBQ: Spicy Chicken

Charcoal BBQ: Beef Brisket
Their meats were quite flavorful, soft and chewy that you have to go for a second order.

Drinks cost S$2 (Korean tea) per person, drinks are not free flow unless stated otherwise. You can always ask for house water.

Price
One of the inexpensive bbq buffet.

Expense
25- 30sgd per pax (Lunch).

Service
We were the only ones during the first hour, so their attention span was only to us, but once other people started coming in, attention was divided. The wait wasn't that long between patrons so it was still ok. Mostly, you will just ask for additional side dishes, meats, and refill on water.

Verdict: 4 out of 5
They don't have much selection with their ala carte buffet and side dishes as compared to other buffet bbq outlets out there. But even so, they do have some tasty dishes so it's not a lost cause.

Direction to Don Dae Bak
Take bus 145, alight at Kreta Ayer bus stop ( stop before Pearl Center)
Or
Alternatively, you can alight at Outram Park station exit H, and then walk to Kreta Ayer Rd.  Facing the road, it should be on your right ( as long as you're going not going to the direction of HPB, you're in the right place).
