UK Itinerary 2018: Day 11 - One Day Tour of Central London
We started our day to go Tower of London. We managed to snag up 1 day London Pass (to be picked up at Leicester Square), so we need not queue for tickets, but go for fast track entrance to the attractions.
[09:00 - 11:30] Tower of London
How to Go:
Alight at tower Hill Tube station and follow way out. There are signs to go to Tower of London (at the same time, Tower of London is visible from the tube station)
What you'll get to see before entering the grounds are:
The first thing to go in Tower of London are the Crown Jewels. A lot of people are aiming to go to the Crown Jewels so it's best to beat the crowd. The monarch's coronation crown are housed inside Tower of London. ( No pictures allowed though)
Walking to Tower Bridge from Tower of London...
[11:30 - 12:30 ] Tower Bridge
To go to the Tower Bridge, Exit Tower of London. First corner turn right, and there is a flight of stairs to the tower of Bridge exhibition ( follow to the direction of the bridge). You just roughly need an hour to cover the whole of exhibition.
[13:15 - 13:50] City Cruises
From Engine room, we worked our way back to Tower of London. Tower Millennium Pier is near Tower of London. We took the City Cruises from Tower Pier to Westminster Pier.
There's a nearby Pret-A-Manger near the Pier. We were pressed for time, so we didn't get to go around to find some grub. ( So better bring some snacks along)
These are some of the view while taking the cruise ...
It was still worthwhile to cruise down Thames River and admiring the sights for City Cruises.
[1400 - 1500] Around Westminster
Westminster Pier is near the Westminster Station of the Jubilee Line.
After alighting , we proceeded to go to Westminster Abbey (but it was closed on that day, Friday)!
Tip: Do check the local website and see if any of the attractions are closed for the day.
We decided to quickly just go to St Paul Cathedral after having our lunch at Gregg's. There's not much places to eat near Westminster Station and we are forced to gorge on sandwiches near the station.
[1500 - 16:30] St Paul's Cathedral
How to go: take the district line and alight at Mansion House. Take exit 3 and then walk to Cross St. Walk till you see St Paul Cathedral, it's on the right. You will also see Millennium Bridge from St Paul Cathedral.
After going to St Paul, we decided to just take the Hop On Hop Off Bus (as it was included in the London Pass). We couldn't find the bus stop at St Paul so we decided to walk further down to check the bus stop.
We had planned to take 1 round of the ride, but since we were pressed for time, we decided to alight a stop after Westminster Abbey.
Note: the Hop on Hop off bus have timings. Take note of the bus stops where you can ride the Hop-On Hop-Off bus (it's not that easy to locate!) and the timings ( they're not there forever!).
[18:00 - 19:30]
We managed to get some grub and slowly took our time to go around Westminster Bridge (again!), the Houses of Parliament, London Eye and Big Ben ( which is still under construction until 2021).
