UK Itinerary 2018: Day 1 - A Day at the Palaces

Having checked-in and settled temporarily in our hotel, we dragged our weary feet and explored Central London.

Our itinerary for the day was ...
Leicester Square --> Trafalgar Square -->  Shopping at Leicester Square --> Buckingham Palace --> Rest at hotel (because it was raining heavily) -->  Kensington Palace

Once you exit Leicester Square (Exit 1 for Trafalgar Square, Exit 2 for Covent Garden) , you'll be greeted with this sight.

Following google map to Trafalgar Square, you'd be walking into St. Martin's Church

Buckingham Palace
Nearest Station: Green Park ( Jubilee Line).
How To Go: Find the exit to Buckingham Palace. Head south, until you reach the gates leading to Buckingham Palace.  



At Kensington Palace


Nearest Station:  High Street Kensington (District Line)

How to go: Facing the station,walk to the right, walk further down until you hit a small walkway. You know you're in the right direction if you see Uniqlo, Whole Foods Market and Abbot Church. Walk until Royal Hotel is visible. 2 blocks from the hotel is a small gate. Enter the gate, it will lead you to a park. Walk until Kensington Palace is visible.

The King & Queen Apartments (Mostly where Queen Victoria and King Albert lived)

At the end of the day, we head back to our hotel


Stay:  Mowbray Court Hotel
How to Go: Facing earl's court station, turn right, first corner - when you see m&s food hall, turn right. walk a few blocks.
Nearest Station: Earl's Court (one of the station w/ step free access from train to the street.) 

Pro
  • Good location 
  • Room temperature can be controlled. 
  • Amenities: coffee, tea, and water bottles. (Communal) shampoo, hand wash,  and body wash. Enough Towels for guests. Enough Plugs.  
  • Free breakfast. It starts at 7-10AM.
  • They allow to store your luggage for a nominal fee of 5GBP per luggage per day (It's computed based on the nights the luggage is in their possession).
  • Have Lift 
Con:

  • Small in size considering it's triple room(but already expected).
  • No fridge, hairdryer only for use in bathroom.
  • No toothbrush,or slippers (bring your own. Ed: I think this is an Asian thing to give you spare toothbrushes in case you forgot to bring one). 
  • Free breakfast (continental breakfast but no egg,ham.only jam and butter, plus croissant. But beggars can't be choosers). 
  • No ramp to lug the luggage to the reception (and you need to lug them twice if you are billeted at the annex). 
  • You need to push a lot of doors to get you out to the lift. 
  • Lift space is only enough for 2 big luggage, 2 small luggage.
