UK Itinerary 2018: Day 5 - Back to London and then some
Normally, I would not schedule anything on the day that we arrive or depart at a place simply because it is prone to delays. It is better to just sit it out and wing it than plan some elaborate activity that may or may not be in fruition because of unforeseen circumstances.
We ate our lunch on the train. The train is also equipped with charging outlet and free wifi ( but no video streaming).
We decided to go and take our chances at the Platform 9 3/4 photo pitstop.
How to locate HP Shop: Upon reaching King's Cross Station from Underground station, go to the furthest corner of the station where the restaurants are. You will be passing the big timetable (which is in the middle) and moving away from the platform where you'll take the trains to go Edinburgh, and other places.
Best Timing: at 8AM, when there is not much crowd. We were there at 9.15AM but we did not queue for fear that we did not have enough time to take our train. Best to do it after your travels. If you are going to Warner Bros Studio Tour London, better to take your pictures there. Not much queue, you have the whole thing to yourself -- BUT, you just don't have the props.
We waited for about 45mins in line to get our pictures taken at Platform 9-3/4 near the Harry Potter Shop.
After this, we went back to our hotel to rest. After which, we worked our way to Covent Garden.
Tip: Go to Exit 4, follow the path (Garrick Street) until you see Five Guys.
At this timing, most of the shops at the market were closed ( even on a Saturday), and it was just 5PM (I think people just come here for entertainment, food and booze). We just went around the place and went on to find our dinner. We were supposed to eat at Flat Iron ( but it was a 2hr waiting game, so we had to find other places).
Once we stuffed our faces with food, we went to walk to Chinatown (Shaftersbury Avenue). It is just a kilometer to go out and about, and there are a lot of things to see (gay bars and strip clubs).
and somehow we managed to work our way to West End.

and walk around Brewster St before finally reaching Piccadilly Circus.
Tip:
- There's a shop near the CandyLand in Piccadilly Square where it's just 1GBP for a key holder, and 2GBP for a magnet.
- Basically, you can just spend a day at Leicester Square. You can go for your shopping at Covent Garden, and shops in Leicester Square. Eat your hearts out in Chinatown ( there are quite a number of restaurant, but we avoided simply because we didn't want to eat any Asian cuisine) and at Leicester Square ( there's shake shack!). Walk around West End since it's pretty near Chinatown (and maybe watch a show or two), and then shop again around Piccadilly Circus (and maybe Oxford Circus). Do not forget about the famous Trafalgar Square and a trip to the National Gallery/ National Portrait gallery ( Entry to the museums is free!) .
